The school was formed in 1999 and began instruction with 3 teachers and few students.

The School was formed in response to an exodus of young people to the larger cities of Iquitos and Lima. Young people had traditionally left the village for higher education, but few were returning. Members of the community made arrangements with the Department of Education to form a non-denominational school, but in 1999 lacked funding, and the government was not able to assist.

A member of the community, Don Agustin Rivas Vasquez, donated his time, expertise, personal finances and land to bring to life the dream of the community:

From modest beginnings, the school today employs more than 40 teachers, has more than 500 students from pre-school through high school, and is the focal point of the adult literacy program.

The school has been licensed by the provincial government as an education center and now offers academic, vocational, agricultural, environmental and, most recently aquaculture projects and education.
